About Victoria Palmedo
Victoria Palmedo grew up in New York City and studied art at The High School of Music & Art. She moved to Rome, Italy, in 1968 where she attended the Accademia di Belle Arti di Roma and the Istituto Europeo di Design. She was particularly interested in working with ceramics and completed her studies with a renowned Italian potter, Alvaro Ciancamerla.
Until 2014 Victoria lived in Rome, where for 35 years she managed her pottery workshop in one of the most charming areas of old Rome, the Suburra, not far from the Colosseum.
Victoria has participated in numerous ceramics shows both personal and group show (Rome, Florence, Todi, Munich, ). She has also collaborated with the Istituto Superiore per la Conservazione ed il Restauro in Rome.
In 2014 she moved back to New York and set up shop in the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn.
Victoria´s artistic production includes sculptures of all sizes that are first thrown on the wheel and then assembled and molded by hand: many of them are women sitting, standing or lying down, riders on horseback, and musicians, with rapt facial expressions and often wearing a very unusual headgear.
Quite popular are also her sculptures of angels dedicating themselves to various good deeds, from performing music to typing on laptops and communicating via cell phones
Other subjects recurring in Victoria´s work are animals: cats of various shapes and expressions, owls, elephants, hippos and, more recently, dogs who sometimes, in a quirky way, appear to walk a human being.
Items more typical of the production of many ceramists include vases, trays and pitchers, table and floor lamps, wall clocks.
